I Speak to Improve the Boomer Travel Experience
I work with both sides of the boomer travel experience: boomers and the travel industry. For travelers to fully enjoy their journeys, they must take responsibility for knowing what they want and how they want it. In the past, travel agents were left to guess what a middle-class Mr. & Mrs. Jones would likely want out of a five-country, two-week tour of Europe. Tour companies put together an itinerary, travel agents sold it, clients bought it, sent home postcards, and everyone was happy. While some travelers might have complained about the rigidity and superficiality of the tours, very few changes were made to the overall concept.
Then came the boomers. We say we don’t want that type of rigid and superficial tour, but we don’t necessarily express exactly what it is we do want. I lead seminars and workshops for boomers to help them zero in on their travel needs and then express these to their travel companions, travel agents, and anyone else who might be involved in organizing their trips.
After years of gathering information on what boomers want and helping them get out there and travel more, it’s only fair that I share that knowledge with the travel and tourism industry. After all, if we want our trip experiences to improve, we need to partner with those who can do the most to affect those changes. Seminars and workshops are offered to the executives and staff of travel companies and destination organizations interested in addressing the needs of boomers. I also evaluate existing products to determine how these might be adapted to better suit the changing needs of the marketplace and review marketing and advertising campaigns.
