Children Around the World

One of the joys of children in developing nations is their lack of consciousness of cameras. Except in highly touristic areas—where kids might even charge you money to take their photos—most children we encountered in our travels didn’t pay attention to us and our equipment. And when you showed them their images on the LCD screens, they were delighted with the magic of it all.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Iguazu Falls

Iguazu Falls, known as Foz do Iguaçu on the Brazilian side of this magnificent waterscape, offers spectacular views that leave no doubt in the viewer’s mind as to why these are listed along with Niagara and Victoria on most top ten list of the world’s waterfalls that must be seen.

Along with watching millions of gallons of water going over the precipice, visitors can hike trails, and view unusual wildlife such as the coati (see photo) and beautiful butterflies of many colors.

The Most Amazing Place on Earth

When people ask us which was the most amazing place we visited in traveling around the world, we always answer Antarctica.

Until you’ve had the opportunity to see it for yourself it’s hard to believe there are so many variations in the color of ice. And until you’ve stood amidst close to a million penguins, you don’t really know what noisy is!

Celebrating Tet in Vietnam

In 2008 Jacob and I got to celebrate Tet, Vietnamese new year, in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). The new year was the Year of the Rat but somehow here it seemed to be the Year of Mickey & Minnie! Vietnam, like many Southeast Asian countries, has become very much a consumer society and Disney took full advantage of it.

It was fun to see the many vendors of flowering trees as well as all of the decorations for the year’s most important holiday. Every night, the streets were full of people enjoying strolling down the avenues decorated for the holidays. There was music everywhere, flower displays in front of all important buildings and in the street boulevards, and more people per square foot than anywhere but China.
